Climbing the tower on Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the highlights of the Appalachain Trail. All the work you put into getting to the top is well worth the view. I shot this one on our section hike through the park with a fisheye lens. It really helps to show the broad tree covered mountains along with the damage that the balsam wooly adelgid is doing to the Fraser Fir Trees in the area.
I am a photographer currently living in Athens, GA, but I prefer to be found in the woods. Or swimming with sea turtles. My photography centers around National Parks and wilderness areas with a broad range of regions, including the Smokies (the closest park to me), California (Joshua Tree, Death Valley), the West (Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce), and the Pacific Northwest (Redwoods, Crater Lake, Mount Rainier). I visit 5-20 parks every year and countless other recreational areas.
